Where did everybody go?

I took a nap and logged back in to find that Uber has all but given up the ghost.
I can't say I'm very surprised, but it has left me wondering where everyone has gone. Please don't say Facebook, otherwise I'm logging off and burning my laptop.

Where are you going when you're "bored at work"?

I don't recognise most of the user names anymore.
Hopefully that means some of them are dead.

I want to read some decent writing, or at least be entertained.

If you can't manage that, then at least tell me what you've been doing the past five years. That should at least give me a laugh...

Or drive me to drink.

the site had a moment, and the moment was pretty great. i would not be alone in having fond memories of it. ubersite enjoyed significant traffic - particularly for the time - and with enough fucksgiving from bart, may well have become something like reddit. but really 4chan (and specifically /b/) became that as it was a far lower barrier to entry than this site and as such allowed for the pure randomness that the internet inspires, whereas ubersite inherently fosters authorship, and the internet is in many ways anathema to authorship - and thus traffic dwindled as the content creators moved on and were not replaced.

I killed ubersite back in 2007. Ask anyone who was there. Sucked up all the energy and then left.
Just like to remind you that everything you predicted did not happen.

Bart resisted temptations and stayed true to the idea of running a site until you're dead. Didn't cash out or crash out. Kind of amazing if you ask me.

It sucked a little bit less the day that Shlongy joined back in 2004, but oathmeal and Perkman pretty much killed it.

I seem to remember you being quite attractive.

Or having breasts.

Regardless...this site is now but a stillborn carcass that is only propped up by the last, dying remnants of its owner's fading dreams of internet significance. Ubersite is nothing more than an embarrassing husk of what the early 2000's offered to people who were quite literally Bored at Work.

The only thing I'm particularly interested in seeing is the site's actual, final breath.

The day when I log on to find out that typing in 'ubersite.com' returns a 404 error - even more telling, a completely new site run by the people from whom Bart accepted whatever paltry sum he decided would be enough to finally admit defeat - that day will mark the end of one era and the beginning of everything else that matters.

Because today, Ubersite does not.

Also, uber's traffic quickly tanked with social media.
I guess it should've evolved like Myspace did, and die anyway.

Everybody caught the flash, or the hard rain that came after. We buried what we could, burned the rest. No...

Everybody went to this big party over at 40th and Lex, but it was a drug dealer's place and the cartel came and they started shooting. No...

The greys came, as it had been foretold, and purged this planet of non-intelligent life. No...

There came a time when the jewels ceased to sparkle; the gold lost its lustre, and all that was left was a father's love for his daughter. No...

The Rapture occurred, and all Uber was taken bodily to Heaven. No...

Everyone mutated into Buffalo Girls, and disappeared around the Outside, around the Outside, around the Outside. No...

Now I remember! Everybody fucked your mom in the ass, got AIDS, and died. That's it!

Hey, I like the cut of your jib, the plight of your troth, the squareness of jaw. You are in addition so right. The board is on it' s last legs, it's dying throe's, it last endearing breath. It lingers and tarries. If it is needed to look up le mot "tarries", then you will perceive it encapsulates the state of good old Uber, so accurately, it mightily takes your breath away. Hang on Jim, loins must be girded, sit up straight boy, England's officers were mounded on the playing fields of Eton.
