Why Watching the News is Bad For You

Because it directs your thoughts.

Sitting in front of whichever news network you “trust” the most, listening to people argue about shit, watching political pundits and field-specific experts blather on about unimportant nonsense, what are you thinking about? Today, for example, is the big Lance Armstrong debacle. Who fucking cares. Will you care in a month? Does this have any effect on your life? Fuck no it doesn't, but you’re watching it, and you’re thinking about it, and for a day or two it’s floating around in your brain.

Last week it was the disastrous interview with Piers Morgan and that gun-nut douchebag who demanded that Morgan be deported because of his position on guns. That was huge and not only did you see it live, but you saw clips of it, then people talking about for endless hours not just on TV but on radio. Will you give a shit in a month? Nope. What were people talking about today, exactly one year ago? My guess is some dumb trivial bullshit that entered our minds, then left just as quick, like snake poison sucked out of a wound. I actually looked this up: Last year, exactly, the top story was about a cruise ship that crashed in Italy. Images of rescue workers climbed up the side, and emergency crews searched everywhere for passengers. Rescue workers were setting off explosions to get further in to the ship!

Here’s a little philosophy for you. Whatever is in front of us, to a degree, influences our thoughts and thinking. When watching/reading/listening to angry rhetoric or nonsense, you’re thinking about it. Would you rather spend time with someone who stares at a pile of shit (and by extension thinks about shit) all day long, or with someone who stares at the cosmos and thinks about the cosmos? Here comes my point.

There are better things to think about. And, the news makes a big deal out of everything just to please its sponsors. And, most of everything on the news isn’t even really news!

News networks operate like any other business. They’re motivated by profit. This isn’t a bad thing, because the economy is based on businesses offering a product or service, and then people consuming it, and then the business making a few bucks. So what. However, my issue is with how dramatized every hour is on every news channel and on every talk show, every minute of every god damned fucking miserable fucking day.

I don’t listen to Rush Limbaugh, but my guess is that he was furious about something today. Just like he was furious about something two weeks ago, and two years ago, and so on. He feigns this ferocity to get people to listen, to get you to listen to his sponsors, to make money.
How do you feel listening to someone rage about $10,000 allocated by the federal government to research the thickness of baby diapers? In his fat fucking whiney fatass voice, he says, “This is OUR government tax dollars at work here folks. YOUR money being spent on this nonsense. YOUR hard-earned, wait we need to take a break.”

When you watch a baby smile, you’re thinking about beautiful babies and the wonder of life and all that. When you listen to Glenn Beck vomit in understandable words, you think about vomit. You choose: the miracle of life, or puke?

The fix:

Have a news channel that summarizes important events once a week for an hour, or immediately if there’s actually news to report. Have this news channel sponsored and run by the people. Have zero advertising. And have the reporter’s salaries and employment contingent upon quality and accuracy.
This way, we can all get accurate, non-dramatized news so we’re connected to what’s happening in the world.

Watching today’s news is like willfully taking a snake’s fangs and licking off the poison.

The internet is worse.. at least the News has some format, or FCC to regulate it, or keep it on some moral stance.. Most of the Alt-Right cucks I see, read random websites, blatantly bias, and hateful, or omitted facts, then they take them as facts...

So, there yah go.. were in the age of "Do your own research", which I love... but, only us "Smart" people do that.. most people, could give a shit.

This was relevant the year it was posted. I can’t remember how far back.

I saw weird stuff in that place last night. Weird, strange, sick,
twisted, eerie, godless, evil stuff. And I want in.
